Arkadiy Gips is a world-class violinist who toured twice with pop icon, Madonna… and Alex Gordez is a renowned acoustic guitarist whose latest album, Notes from the Road, won Best CD of the Year in the Indie Acoustic Project’s “Best CDs of 2016” Awards Acoustic Jazz category.

Upon Arkadiy’s immigration to Columbus in the early 90s, it didn’t take long for his exceptional talent to be celebrated. “If music is a king, then Arkadiy Gips certainly wears a crown,” was the local media’s response to his first performance.

One of his recent CD projects was nominated for “Album of the Year” by the American Independent Music Awards. He is also the co-founder and curator of the annual Columbus Jewish Arts and Music Festival.

Alex Gordez blends many styles, including classical, flamenco, Brazilian, R&B, Urkranian, Gypsy, Jewish and Jazz. His award-winning CD, Notes from the Road, features nine songs, each an interpretation of a different emotion—from love, to passion, to success, to loss… Arkadiy contributed to the album as a musician and programmer.

Alex and Arkadiy will perform together from their vast catalogs of original works.

Sally Fingerett will open the evening. She is a contemporary author, award-winning singer-songwriter, and a founding member of the musical comedy group, The Four Bitchin’ Babes. She has released 14 CDs, written music for the theater, television and film, and contributed songs to 15 various philanthropic compilation recordings. She has performed on more than 800 stages around the country.

A Kerrville New Folk Award Winner, Sally composed “Home Is Where the Heart Is,” recorded by folk legends Peter, Paul, and Mary for their 1995 LifeLines CD/PBS special, and published in “Contemporary Cabaret,” a songbook that includes works by Stephen Sondheim and Andrew Lloyd Weber.

She has appeared in Putamayo’s Songwriter Festival at NY’s Carnegie Hall, and was a featured musical guest on Michael Feldman’s Whad’Ya Know, NPR’s Mountain Stage, and CBS Sunday Morning.

As an author, Sally’s prose has been published in Random House’s Life’s a Stitch (with Molly Ivins, Erma Bombeck and Gloria Steinem), and Publishing Syndicates’ Not Your Mother’s Book – On Home Improvement. She is also author of the book, The Mental Yentl, Stories from a Lifelong Student of Crazy, a loving and humorous collection of stories and personal narratives, which she has also performed as a one-woman show. sallyfingerett.com
